2006 MAKO IT introduce ultrafast bonded broadband to Aberdeen
Aberdeen based Mako IT Limited, have introduced ultrafast broadband to Aberdeen. The project was set up to support subsea engineering company DES Operations, manufacturers of the MARS oil & gas production optimisation system.
Grant MacLean, Managing Director of Mako explained, “our client, DES, manages multiple subsea production optimisation projects with numerous suppliers and Operators from West Africa to Gulf of Mexico and the existing internet solutions available did not offer them the speed, security or redundancy that either they or their clients demanded. DES manage all their international projects and document management through their unique intranet website and they approached Mako in March of this year for a cost effective solution. Working with Mako’s bonded DSL technology we were able to provide DES multiple parallel internet connections and the result has been a dramatic increase in both the speed and reliability of their intranet site.
Bonded DSL provides a faster, more reliable connection to the intranet than conventional aDSL. Upgrading the service to Bonded DSL was transparent to all the users and future improvements can be made without any downtime. The flexibility of a bonded connection allows a lower total cost of ownership, hence providing a faster return of investment.
Ian Donald, Director of DES Operations, said “the expectation of our major clients has changed in the past few years, most projects now require global access and co-ordinated documentation management through our dedicated intranet site. To enable this we needed fast upload and download facilities and ultra secure storage. The bonded line solution implemented by Mako IT delivered this and the improvements were noticed by all our clients from Norway, Gulf of Mexico and West Africa."
